In 2026, Matchbox: The Movie premiered on the streaming platform Apple TV+. Rather than being a film about toy cars, it is an action-adventure movie that combines elements of Fast & Furious and The A-Team. The film was directed by Sam Hargrave.

The story follows Sean, a former soldier and CIA operative portrayed by John Cena. After many years, he returns to his hometown and reunites with his childhood friends. What begins as a peaceful reunion quickly turns into an international action-packed chase when they become entangled in a dangerous conspiracy and must work together to clear their names and prevent a global threat.

To coincide with the film's release, Mattel launched an extensive collection of vehicles inspired by the cars featured in the movie. Similar to previous licensed series such as Jurassic Park, collectors can look forward to a number of all-new castings. Several existing models have also been redesigned and enhanced with moving parts.

The movie-themed collection is represented across the entire Matchbox product portfolio. Vehicles from the film are featured in the Basic range, the Moving Parts series, the premium Collectors line, themed 5-Pack assortments, and a variety of special gift sets.
